Global Disruption to Semiconductor ManufacturingPosted on 31st March 2021
At Parsons, we provide industry-leading Gas Scrubbing Systems for semiconductor manufacturers.
As we all know, throughout 2020, the UK was placed into a national lockdown. The lockdown led to many businesses closing their doors and moving to remote working or home-schooling. All in aid to help companies keep their businesses afloat and trading in a different capacity than normal, and for school children to carry on with their education.
This has caused a mass surge of people buying laptops, computers and game consoles along with other electronics in a short period of time. The knock-on effect of this is a higher demand for parts such as the microchips that help machines work in their intended way.
But what we also saw in 2020 was a halt in the microchips’ manufacturing process, which has resulted in selected gadgets and consoles becoming harder to buy and find. An example of this was when the Xbox and PlayStation released their latest consoles and were met with a demand that exceeded stock levels. As a result of this increase in demand semiconductor manufacturers across the globe are looking to increase capacity which in some case means increasing Cleanroom capacity.
How Parsons can help?
At Parsons, we believe that we can help with this issue, Acid Exhaust extraction systems are one of the key services for Cleanrooms, Parsons design, manufacture and install bespoke plastic ductwork systems to enable systems to be extended to allow the expansion of cleanroom facilities with the shortest possible lead times when compared to PTFE coated Stainless Steel systems manufactured in the USA.
Over the years, we have worked with a multitude of clients to create bespoke ventilation and ductwork systems. In the past plastic ductwork has been limited in operating pressure to a maximum of 750 Pascals but to accommodate the systems requirements of their clients Parsons have designed a complete integrated system able to operate at negative pressures in excess of 4000 Pascals. In some situations, the ductwork also has to be sprinklered which imposes still greater loads. We manufacture our ductwork from 6mm thick polypropylene reinforced with GRP in accordance with BS 4994-1983 with a design life of 20 years continuous operation.
The plastic ductwork can also be supplied as part of a complete acid exhaust system with acid fume scrubbers, extract fans and exhaust stacks. This can offer complete resistance to the toxic and corrosive chemicals used in the process of manufacturing semiconductors.
Gas Scrubbing Systems for Rental
At Parsons, we can also offer a range of different rental solutions for Gas Scrubbing Equipment, which can be used on either a short-term basis or a long-term basis. These rental solutions can be utilised as quick fixes as the equipment is available from stock, an ideal solution if you are faced with a plant shutdown and you need a solution whilst the existing equipment is repaired/replaced, thus eliminating costly production shutdown.
